So if you have a 24mm crank pin stock and switch to a 22mm pin. Keep the thickness of rod the same and the outside location of the pin the same the center line of the crank pin will move to a 2mm larger circle. Presto +2mm stroke.
Now clearances to head must be maintained. So you need a -1mm rod length center to center. But the real clearance issue happens at BDC where now the piston is 2mm further towards the crank and case. This is why sometimes you see spacer plates put into stroker kits to clearance piston to crank issues. But then you run into cam timing and cam chain length issues. Other ways around it are pistons with different pin heights to compensate with using a crank and rod setup that has pin in higher location than stock.

So you are increassing the distance between main & big end centres... Correct?
A bit more involved than a "smaller Dia crank pin" that was stated in the earlyer post..

Not hard to sorce con rod blanks to machine what ever length rod you require..

I have built complete cranks for Jawa / Westlake & GM speedway motors

Yes a bit more involved.
Been kicking around ideas with other engine builders and we tend to not include the technical details of each possibility as we are familiar with them. I responded here with that mindset.

Anyways I can not wait to be testing my prototypes in a few weeks.

And maybe I will build an all out power engine and test to failure. See how far I can push parts.

Got my Hand Guard mounted, installed a set of 1 1/2" risers on the handlebars and this cured the dash interference but will still interfere with anything plugged into the lighter port at full turn...

Good for you. If you have time, please post photographs of your installation.

Is installing a set or risers as straight forward as unbolting the handlebars, inserting the risers and rebolting the handlebars? Any adjustments needed to cables?

(just for reference, yes I'm a complete newb to working on a motorcycle and no, I still don't have my bike yet)

Yes, the process is that simple, unless the cables are too short when the handlebars are raised. However, I think the cables on the Zongshen RX3 are long enough to prevent that problem.

The new Zongshen RX3 Forum has been created under the Adventure Bike heading at China Riders.

http://www.chinariders.net/forumdisplay.php?f=136

I believe I have moved all of the RX3 threads to the new location, but please let me know if I missed any. I also left permanent redirects to all of the RX3 threads at their old locations in the Dual Sport/Enduro Forum.

In addition, I have pinned the Zongshen RX3 megathread to the top of the Zongshen RX3 Forum, so it will always be easy to find. The Zongshen RX3 (ZS250GY-3) Modifications & Maintenance thread is also pinned to the top of the new Zongshen RX3 Forum. This forum is open for business, so please feel free to contribute new threads to the forum.

Motorcycle Jack

Just got a new toy for lifting my Rx3 off the deck. Will do the car as well.

Seems quite good though I was the only one impressed.

The wife wasn't as the delivery man left it propped against the door and she struggled to get in the house.

The cat wasn't arsed but liked the box it came in

As a starting point I would suggest draining the coolant and refilling as per CSC tutorial
making sure you have no air locks and the left hand radiator fills properly.

I think CSC states the capacity as 1 litre so this gives you some idea when the system has filled correctly.

I stepped out and took a few quick picks (at work) you can see the 1 1/2" risers in one pic pretty good....this gave it much more clearance for the dash, and it "just" clears the brake line...maybe 1/16" clear there.

There was just enough slack in the cables for the 1 1/2" risers

Much better! The Kenda looks like a good match for the Shinko rear!

With all the offroad riding you do, were you intending to retire your Zongshen 200 or use the RX3 for more road use?

It looks good, Huck. Please remind me. What handguards, and what bar risers did you install?

I am definitely not retiring the Zongshen Sierra 200 (ZS200GY-2). My original Zong is much better suited for off road riding than the RX3, since it is lighter, and has a better suspension. The RX3 is vastly superior on pavement, and much better suited for adventure riding given its larger engine, luggage, windshield, 300-watt alternator, et cetera.

The Kenda K270 looks great on the front wheel, and performs very well. I will post more photos of the front tire, soon.
