While Rever doesn't have autorouting it's excellent for ease of use when preplanning then following your .gpx track on the device which is synced automatically. The tools for creating offroad routes are also very simple and work great. Checkout USAtopo https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...hamerica&hl=en and Backcountry Navigator https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....license&hl=en for your offroad topo needs. You can also offline up to 128km grids of google maps now which includes the autorouting and search functions (new as of yesterday.) Spud (or any of the guys out west) Backcountry (paid version) has the BLM trails and property maps for federal/state/private land if that's helpful for you. Lee |

One last peice of software for the desktop that I use. You can plan a trip on Google maps and export the route it generates to .gpx with this, which can be very handy for certain navigation needs.
It's a swiss army knife webpage for .gpx files or converting files. You can also easily use a variety of maps to click and make your own custom .gpx to follow. http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/draw/ http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert...ert_format=gpx Last edited by Lee R; 11-12-2015 at 07:52 PM. |

My riding background for the last 10 years has been hauling ass around the US on a SV650 modified for touring(quickly lol) So a long time ago I splurged on a Garmin Zumo 450. It fried under warrantee and Garmin replaced it with a Zumo550 which is still rock solid. The SV has over 200,000 miles on it now (long running thread on ADV in Road Warriors titled "Touring on the SV650" with tons of pics from travels) Last few years have explored more and more places the SV had difficulty with. The RX3 solves that. Now the Zumo graces the RX3 |

One big draw back for phones/tablets is the touch screen, it can be difficult to use sometimes depending on the gloves. Have you tried Hillmaps? You can also create routes/tracks with that and see two maps types at once while you do it. Very handy with a topo/satellite combo for setting up tracks on trails. Lee |

I'm wondering the same thing. I love my old Playbook, but it's not as useful without a phone. I'm currently using it as a media player in our trailer.
It would be great to upload maps to it.

If your experience has been with using Garmin Nuvis on bikes, they really don't stack up to the Zumo in terms of durability, waterproofness etc. Have seen quite a few Nuvis adapted for bike use fail. Usually connections fail from movement/vibration. Used Zumos are for sale often on ADV classified. Yes, the Zumos are overpriced, but mine has been rock solid for many years. No, I have not used the software you asked about...will look into it. |

Is a Zumo 660LM selling for $309.95 a good price? This sale ends November 15, at midnight.

That's a very good price! I'm tempted myself. So where is it on sale?

A quick overview I made today for the apps on a phone. You can offline all of them, HERE is the best for that. Google Now (like apples siri) allows you to ask for directions with your bluetooth headset and never touch the phone. It'll also send and read texts, start/stop music by voice.
*out of curiosity I offlined all of New England and New York on Google Maps. You can basically offline as much as your memory will hold. This retains all the google search results (poi) and you can route to any of them with the offline data with voice guidance, also free. Last edited by Lee R; 11-16-2015 at 05:16 PM. |
