RX3 Headlight improvement??

Hi All

Last night I was riding in the dark, on some unlit twisty country roads. Even on full beam the light didn't really seem to have great luminosity, hence it's coverage was not ideal. So much so, I had to really slow down, a little to the understandable annoyance of the motorists behind me.

Has anybody got any suggestions for improving the headlight luminosity etc?

Many thanks

Tony

Most owners have upgraded the bulb. A standard H4 bulb fits. I have purchased an LED 3200lm 6k bulb that should be better. I'll install this weekend but others have and there are plenty of threads on this subject.

I installed an 55W/60 H4 bulb, and I trimmed the rear of the headlight to dissipate the extra heat. If you search this forum for headlight bulb, you will find a lot of information on this topic.

I have also experimented with an LED bulb, but the H4 bulb is superior. Others have also experimented with various LED bulbs. I eagerly read every new report on LED bulbs, waiting for someone to find the perfect bulb.

Also, I suggest going with a "White" light, somewhere around the 5000k range (OE color for most cars is around that range) is 'perfect' but most bulbs you can buy in the store are a little higher around 6000k, it's still nice and 'white' but has a slight 'blue' tint added at and above 6000k.

I know I have a different bike then you, but the stock headlight in my Chinese bike came with a Yellow colored headlight (?2700k?)... Yellow is one of the WORST colors to have as a headlight can't see anything at night and they add a really dull look to everything at night... Please get something that is nice and bright and is in a white color for your headlight choice

Hi All

Thanks for the replies. I'll give some H4 55/60W 5000K bulbs a go.

Cheers

Tony

With a 55W H4 halogen, make sure to cut out the back of the headlight for airflow, or the heat will melt the reflector. The silverstar ultra is a nice bright light.

That's wonderful, Rod. I lived right across the Columbia River from you for nine years, in suburban Portland. We want to view lots of photographs of your new pair of RX3 motorcycles.

P.S. I like your avatar.

I have an led like the one CSC sells with the heat sink braid. The pattern is terrible and I deem it unusable.

Mine gives me a dark spot right down the middle on low beam. Going to get a silverstar tomorrow.

Csaddict, is it possible to adjust the LED in or out to improve the lamp's focus? Some LEDs come with shims for that purpose, but I don't know if this one does.
