Need some more off-roady tires.

Anyone have thoughts on this setup?

KENDA K270 5.10-17, REAR 50% road / 50% offroad
SHINKO 244 3.50-18 M/C 62P, FRONT 70% road / 30% offroad

We do not have the 19" front wheel -- Is there honestly any huge advantage? Is it worth the $200 to step up 1" in wheel size? I hear there's more tire options than the 18 but does it really matter?

The Kenda and the Shinko you listed are very close thread patterns and both considered 50/50 (I have seen the Shinko listed as 70/30) but most 70/30 tires are much better on the street than the 244 is.

I use the Shinko 244 front and rear and they work well on dirt fire roads, and easy single track stuff. Not great in mud or sand, but usable.

I do not like them for higher speeds on paved road especially in the curves, but with a 50/50 tire you cannot expect the best of both worlds.

try the irc Tr8's. I use them on anything that even looks at serious dirt. LIKE them better than the D 606's.

I've been running the Shinko 804/805 adventure tires and I really like them. They do a great job on road and off.

I have the 19" front wheel and I think it helps. But spudrider rides extreme trails with his 18" front, so I don't think the 19" is absolutely necessary for riding off road.
