For the money needed to get an extra 50cc of displacement and all the associated headaches, that are surely going to crop up, why not just do an engine swap? Purchase one of the 250cc dirtbikes and swap the engine into the streetbike. They've already done the hard part for you. There are numerous ways this could be done. Buying the dirtbike and parting out the extras. Swap engines and sell the extra bike. Buy the 250cc engine outright for the swap, etc... I'd love to have one of the newer CDI OHC engines in my Viva anyway. Why not do the entire bike? I may just completely strip the bike down and rebuild it. The frame needs some attention anyway, why not strengthen it with better gussets instead of the cheap stamped steel gussets. My frame could use some work. This winter, all bets are off!

Why do people constantly think these bikes are not worth modifying? Ok, if you only pay 1k for it... and then you spend... nevermind!

Maybe I'm just...

I prefer Sam's response. If/when i kill the 200 OHV then it will be time to swap in a 250 OHC. The jugs may be a direct swap. I have a 200 yamaha that will take the 225-230 jug as a direct swap.

The 200's can be had for about $350-400 on ebay right now. I am sure the 250 will be available soon.

I havnt seen the 250cc single engines for sale yet but yeah I agree they will be along sooner or later.
I had thought "maybe I could stuff one of those 250cc twins in mine" but no, nope I just didnt think I could do it.

I think I'm going to try to get pipe and rejet mine just to see how that goes even though it is pretty good right now.
Actually I feel these bikes NEED some modding the frames are weak. The stock engine vibrates alot and the plastic is a little to brittle for me.

But for the money I have been having fun both riding and modding it so I'm happy.

When will these be around here?

GREAT IDEA! Id be very interested to find out what the crankshaft and connecting rod on the 250 is compared to the 200 motors. Anyone know what the bore and stroke is on the 250 motor compared to the 200? Is it just a larger bore or did they inc rease the stroke?

250 SPECS..

Had a rake around the internet and came up with these specs for my Hongdou 250GY. After looking on the Honda CRF230 forums (which is basically what the engine is) there is very little scope for boring out, 10cc max, as the motor is a bored out 200.

Bore x Stroke (mm) 65.5x66.2
Piston Displacement 223cc
Compression Ratio 9.0 : 1
Maximum Power (kw/r/min) 14/7500
Maximum Torque (N.m./rpm) 17/6000

Jonathan.

got a call out to
Powroll. LA sleeve said they didnt have one, but did manufacture multiple sleeves for Powroll back in the 80's and 90's ....ranging from 200-275cc for XR200's and 250's.

Why not grab a sawzall and a welder and shoehorn a Honda CR500 engine in there? That really would be a wolf in sheeps clothing... I think they had something like 45 hp...

Before buying my Lifan I inquired about buying this bike
http://www.buysell.com/root/detail/B..._Zongshen.aspx
then adding a Dualsport Kits getting it inspected and licensed since I could buy it locally ( chilliwack)
I was getting into more money than I could convince the wife to spend and ended up getting the GY-5. Now I wonder about dropping in the 250 engine into the GY instead of trying to get a big-bore kit. or selling the Lifan and buying the Lifan style 250

the specs on the 250 are located http://x-rage.ca/DirtBikes.html choose anyone of the 250 dirtbikes

I'd love to stick a 200 motor in my 150cc frame. I'm a little broke and new for that yet. :( I'm telling people to give cash this year for christmas. (bike parts)
