You can see the engine model stamp on a flat surface visible behind the gear shift... Can you see what it is?

I found ZS167 FML but oddly seems to be a 198cc engine (misprint?).

Really curious what yours is stamped I am wondering if it can be adapted to fit the Storm ??

The Templar and Templar M get the 5sp ZS 172FFM-3A that I got on my early 2022 Templar X.
This is scrambling my brain. So, right now Power Sports Max has the Templar M for $1,599.95. The website says it has a "249.9cc Zongshen CB250F(ZS172FMM) Engine."
It doesn't say -3 or -5, but does say 5 speed. Two questions: Is this Templar M the same bike as your early 2022 Templar X (5spd instead of 6 and still has a kick Starter)? Wouldn't that make it a 172FMM-3? Let's say that was part 2 of question 1. Now for question 2. Would that make it a counter balanced engine?

The M version has the same 5speed engine that came in my 2022 Templar X, but M model is a lower priced Templar. You need to look closely at photos of the M and compare it to the X. I don't know if they still sell the Templar (not X, not M). But it is similar to the M. ONLY the new X model has the 6speed counterbalanced engine. A bargain if they still have them

Now that the 6 speeds are rolling out, save yourself the hassle and spend the few extra bucks now to get one instead of the 5 speed.

Thumper, is your 5speed X a counter balanced engine? On another note, the Brozz 250 Recon has been on my radar. I spoke to Jeff today and he said that the Recon's 167 engine is counter balanced. I questioned him on it and he reiterated that it is. Their description of the Recon says it has the ZS167FMM. So it seems there is a counter balanced version of the 167?

all the engine code denotes is ZS167(Zongshen) 1 cylinder and 67mm piston.

the FMM and FML seems to imply OHV/OHC but I've seen it interchange on either or.

Counterbalanced is more of a fine print issue than an engine stamp related one.

The 6 speeds are rolling into mainstream production...200cc CG200 engines appear phased out.

Even the OHV pushrod engines appear to be getting thinner to their OHC brethren.

The 5-speed 172-FMM-3A (249cc, 19hp) is not counterbalanced. You can still buy it on Templar M or Templar if you can find stock. Only the new Templar X has the 6 speed, counterbalanced engine (19 hp). The smaller Zongshen (167-FMM) engines (223cc) can be counterbalanced. For instance, The Bashan Storm has this counterbalanced 14hp engine. It is a 5 speed.

Thanks, guys. It's impossible to make a good decision without this kind of information. I'd hate to buy a bike then find out that it wasn't what I thought.

Can you see if your ZS172FMM-3A has the bottom 4 bolt holes for a cross bar foot rest? The current dealer of it on EB has not responded and I dont want to buy a $550 engine unless it has the bottom 4 bolt holes in the block for the peg/rest.
