250 Hawk shifter Question
Has anyone else had an issue with the shifter on the Hawk 250, working fine with sneakers or shoes of about any kind, But put your riding boots on and can't get the boot under the shifter to change gears????
Is this something I can adjust out of it by puting in on in a higher position, or do I have to get another shifter period??? I Haven't ever had this problem before, so I am asking if anyone else has delt with it, without replacing the shifter. |

I used longer MSR as many of us. ![]() Its end was too low, but moving the lever up by one or two teeth was impossible because of interference with the engine body at the point shown. Some time ago I tried to reshape the gear shifter lever. As appears I was unable to bend it for the required angle even in vise using a huge hummer. I made a test cut and ... yes, it is very, very hardened steel! What a "genius" design! Now picture this; the bike is falling on the left side and such hard lever would bend the gear shaft like a nail. Sure, I discard it without any regret. Before ordering a different lever, I decided to get some practice on the stock one, made from the softer steel. Reshaped it as shown. ![]() ![]() That exceeds all my expectations. It is way more convenient than the longer MSR lever and than the stock one. A little longer (just 1/2 inch) would be even better. I have big feet and with boots on the stock shifter is too close and too far out for me to operate it comfortably. I run a steel IMS shifter for an XR400, and what I love about it is that it moves the shifter peg position inboard quite a bit. This buys me lots of room for my foot, and when I want to shift I just need to point my toes up or down and I can shift with the inside of my foot/big toe. The only change I made to it for fitment reasons was replacing the hex head pinch bolt with a button head allen bolt.

I like the way the curved one turned out. That actually looks very useful compared to how the stock shifter sets on it.

I run the IMS shifter Dan has and am very happy with it. Sits closer in out of harm's way and the tip folds in if ya lay it down. Wider footpegs also helped a bunch.

If shifter is too low why not take it of and rotate it up 1 spline?
There are sooo many versions that can fit but if it suits you is another question. I have a couple version and 1 is maybe an inch longer but I think it moves closer to the engine as well. It might be a little bit trial and error on that front |
