I Messed Up My Bike!

I put my bike on a front carrier. It was going great until a length of strap came loose and went under the front wheel of the truck.

The extra strap length was criss crossed around the bike, wrapping it.

When the strap went under the truck wheel, it got ripped off the bike HARD

I broke:

My rear fender hanging by a thread
Bent my handlebars
Ripped up the seat a little
A mirror is twisted
Abrasions from the strap everywhere

Hoping it didn’t cut any fuel lines or wiring. Panic!!

Can I swear here?? Faaaak.

So... where do I start? These parts aren’t available, right?

Handlebars are the first things I need.

Can I bend them back?? Rear fender is cracked and hanging by a tiny piece of plastic. Was thinking of zip typing it together after drilling small holes to hold zip ties.

Damn it, my bike was PRISTINE.

Suggestions? Ideas on where to start?

I’m heartbroken

Ouch! I've had some of that. Maybe you can fix that fender with braces and JB weld and maybe some thin aluminum sheeting.

Sounds like it's time to upgrade some parts. I always look at broken stuff as an opportunity to replace with something better if possible. Handlebars for example.

As for the plastic I've successfully repaired plastic with mechanics wire and basically stitching it together. Then using an epoxy on the back side, or even fiberglass. You can drill small holes or I've also just heated the wire up good and hot and pushed it through the plastic, twist your loose ends together on the back side so it's not visible.

Good luck!

You should be able to get parts directly from American Lifan. Things like handle bars and mirrors you can pick up better quality on Amazon and Ebay.

There's also a few dealers in Florida you could try contacting. Use the dealer locator on American Lifan's wdsite.

This is something to know about American Lifan, which is kpclubusa, according to their contact us section :

Unfortunately we do not retail to general public. You can use the dealer locator to find the nearest dealers and they can order the parts for you.

Best regards

OK, the main thing I need to do is get handlebars. It looks to be quite an ordeal since Lifan does not sell to people. Only to dealers. And I am traveling. Right now I am doing a cross-country trip. So, can anyone suggest handlebars on Amazon that are the same exact ones on the Lifan? Same height? Same diameter? Same angle?

I am really trying to keep the bike stock. And I like the handlebar position as it is.

I have no idea what I’m doing buying handlebars. I seem to be coming up with ape hangers for Harleys. Ha ha Ha.

Assuming they are 7/8'th bars? I have used the Tusk ones from Rockey mountain atv on a few bikes and they are great for the price. You will have to find the measurements of the stock ones to get find the closest ones but if you have a tape measure you should be able to get them off the stock damaged bars. Pretty much any aftermarket will be more durable than the stockers.

This does suck, but on the bright side, you'll get to make some upgrades.

They are 7/8 bars I swapped out the set on his bike for a set of aluminum bars he just had to have, the only issue is the electric controls have locator pins and the bars have to be drilled for them. It can be done but you only get once chance to get each side right.

That's normal for all bars aftermarket bars. I've had good luck shaving off the nub, leaving just enough to put pressure on the bars so they don't move. The hawk had aftermarket bars already, but they didn't bother to drill or shave the nub down, just sent it lol. Looked terrible so I had to tear them apart and fix it.

That’s what I’m worried about. I remember the indents for the controls.

Maybe it’s time to find a retailer down the road somewhere and set up for the Lifan bars.

Or I can stick some steel stock in my bars and bend them back. They are only about 3” out on one side. That’s all the damage to them.

So the dealers don’t want anything to do with me. I’m not buying a new bike.

They don’t return calls, they really don’t care.

Lifan USA responds quickly but won’t sell me the bars.

I don’t want to play around on the side of the road drilling holes for the detents that hold the controls in place on some Amazon bars.

So... given it’s a 7/8 tube, I can just slide a long 1” ID pipe over it and bend it back, right??

It’s only out about 3”. And it’s an easy bend. It bent because it tipped toward the truck in the rack and made contact with the hood. It left a rubber streak on the hood where the grip touched. But did not dent the hood AT ALL. So I’m thinking it’s a really easy bend.

Advisable? At least until I get around to a much bigger project of drilling out bars from Amazon or pleading with some Lifan dealer to PLEASE get me parts?
