Interesting. I had observed that your top trunk was different than most. Also interesting is that you went with a smaller rim. Why was that? Quicker handling? Wider range of off-road tires? You make good choices in heated grips. The warm grips on your Zong saved me one cold rainy day in Idaho.

I installed the smaller rim to increase my choice of tires, and to ease tire changing. The Suzuki DR650 employs a size 2.50-17 rim, which confirms the stock 3.00-17 rim was a bit too wide. ;)

Once my Shinko 244, size 5.10-17 tire wears out, I will be switching to a smaller, Shinko 244, size 4.60-17 tire. I couldn't do that with the stock rim. ;) The smaller tire will weigh less, cost less, and lower the saddle height a bit.

13,000 miles. An excellent start. Are you still using your Honda, Kawasaki, and other Zong very much? How does your new bike to on the pavement? Is it safe on the highway?

Yes, I still ride the other bikes. However, I spent most of my time enjoying the new RX3 this riding season. ;) The RX3 is a pleasure to ride on pavement. The windshield does a very good job isolating the rider from the wind. The U.S. Delphi EFI is very smooth, and responsive. The 6-speed transmission is excellent, and the clutch is superb. The bike has a low center of gravity, and is very stable at all speeds. The RX3 is a lot of fun to ride. :) The bike is safe to ride on the interstate highways, but I prefer to ride the freeway for only short periods of time. ;)

With all its standard equipment, the RX3 is a very nice adventure bike, and an excellent value. The cost of operation is also very low.

Tammy on the day I taught her to ride. What better bike to learn on than a pink XR100? She was a quick study and did well. Now the hard part is getting her to slow down!

Yesterday morning I rode the mountain bike up our local Badger Mountain. I know not a mountain by Spuds standards LOL. But, at 1540 feet, it is still a challenge to pedal a bicycle up it. It was nice to get on top of the fog that was covering the Columbia River Valley.

A nice day trip thats only about an hour from me. The monument sits high on a plateau. This is outside the Andes Mountains in the Eastern plains of Colombia. Between Villavicencio and Puerto Lopez in the department (state) of Meta. About 4 hours or so from Bogota. Many tourists come here from Bogota for weekends and holidays because of the hot weather. Historically this area has been more dangerous due to guerrilla activity. I know Colombia has many many problems, just like any other country, just some worse than others. I have been here 4 years and have never felt unsafe. I try to always be aware of my surroundings and not to put myself in an area or situation that welcomes trouble. I read an excellent quote on another forum, maybe ADVrider, they said ...There are a lot more good people here than there are bad people..and I truly believe that from personal experience. I was born and raised in Florida and spent 2 years in Colorado before moving here and I can say without a doubt the people here are much more tolerant of a visitor that doesnt speak their language than we are in the USA. I have never had an issue because of language, people are always polite and helpful. I am leery of gringo pricing so I try to shop around but most people are good about honoring local prices. If not I walk away with a polite thank you. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Colombia you wont be disappointed. Its a beautiful country with amazing people. Plus a $2.00 lunch that cant be beat. Every restaurant around offers fast lunch specials usually around $2 or $3 USD. Meat, rice, beans or potato, sweet plantain, salad, soup and fruit juice. Everything fresh and nothing from a can. Of course we have some real fast food, McDonalds style places where a burger with soda and fries will cost your about $7 or $8 USD which is crazy to me when you compare it to the fast lunch specials.

Damn!!! Ok Stop.... now that makes me hungry. I miss a really really good pizza. We have lots of pizza here but most places dont know what sauce is. Yes, pizza without sauce. We have a few decent places and just recently we got a Papa Johns and a Dominoes but not a huge fan of those. Theres a little mom and pop place that makes a great 8¨personal pizza loaded with toppings for $2 USD. The same pizza from Papa Johns with less toppings will run you about double that. Yes, im cheap!!

This has nothing to do with riding but I know some people like the picture threads :-)

Beautiful calm cool clear skies today and I had the day off so decided to take advantage.

First over to a friends farm. His strip is about 2,000 by 20 or so, but a little challenging due to the rolling hills it is on. Clear approach and departure and nothing to hit on either side makes it fun and easy.

Then to a friend's little strip in a canyon on the Columbia. About 1000 feet and a little challenging due to the canyon.

Then over to Desert Air just east of the Cascades. They have 1,000 of turf there next to the runway. I landed a few there and headed to Cashmere, in the Washington Cascades. From there borrowed the airport van for a drive to Leavenworth.

The Maules are indeed made in the sunny metropolis of Moultrie, GA. I picked up my plane from the factory there and enjoyed the visit. Several police departments use the Maule. California used them also until replaced by the Cessna 206 which is much larger. Someone could make a doughnut joke here but I won't ;-)

Here are a couple of screenshots off of the aviation program that I use on my iPad. There is a satellite, a topographical, and a clip out of the sectional chart.

I also included another picture of the airplane from yesterday.

I will find a recent picture of Mount rainier. I think I have one of the mountain with Mount Adams in the background, taken from the west side .

with all due respect, these things are NOT
warm and cuddly with anything but their own cubs, guy near me raised one, a bengal i think, got bigger, bigger, bigger then broke out of his cage one night for the helluv it and went out for a walkabout.
next morning everyone within about 2 miles woke up to what looked like an isis strike on their stock. my stepfather alone lost 25 goats literally torn to shreds. mostly just pieces. In total , I think the loss was the goats, couple of horses, a few dogs, AND 8 or nine cows &calves. None eaten, just killed for fun, and "tasted". one thing for sure, whatever the owner was feeding him was definitely HIGH energy.

These animals were not created to be warm and cuddly to us. They were not designed to be raised by us. They were engineered to be the ultimate land predators, a task which they perform admirably. Once man intervenes, their behavior is changed from the natural, for the worse. It's like the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle of the jungle. Observation changes the results.

On the other hand, some Lions, even males, have developed some remarkable and long lived affections for those who raised them. on you tube somewhere is the remarkable story of a male raised by two guys in a flat in london. finally he got too big and they were forced to send him to africa where he was released into a reserve. some substantial time later, the two guys arranged a reunion literally in the wild. you have Got to look up and watch that video!

It is a China bike Honda Cub/Trail clone. The original Honda Cub/Trail 50s, 70s, 90s and 110s.

Thanks, Adjuster.

Something about that bike that 'speaks' to me. Is yours a 125? How fast does it cruise?

Adjuster
05-05-2016, 06:15 PM
Yes I installed a 125cc fully automatic. It will do around 55mph. Easy cruising around 40mph. If I had to do it again and I may still do it anyway I would go with a 125cc 4 speed with clutch. The bike has good power once you get it moving but because of my 225lbs of weight and the auto transmission take offs are a little slow to get going. 1st gear and a clutch would fix this issue. The engine is so easy to change out. I can cradle the engine in one arm like a little baby and remove the two bolts holding it in with the other arm and reverse for the new engine going in.

Just snapped a shot of this 'copper' colored bird, I think it's a "Wood Thrush" based on the back/head/wings being a bright/beautiful copper and the belly/face being white with spots :D

Mrs. has been feeding the birds lately, next time I see the 12 Doves, 3 Blue Jays, 2 Hawks, 1 Eagle, and several Owls around our yard I will try and snag a pic of them... but it's hard when we have a cat tries to hunt (and catch) any sized bird :hehe:

Reason I feel this is "pic of the day" worthy... it's a rare bird in my area, they are usually a few states East of here

Another 'rare bird sighting' in our area, an 'Albino Dove' (a white dove of some kind) hanging out with Common Ground Doves, Ravens, and several small birds that didn't sow up in the pic (Warblers, Sparrows, etc.).

Still trying to get a picture of a "Painted Bunting", the family of "Wood Thrush", and this little Turquoise bird I haven't found it's breed just yet... they show up and disappear before I can get my crappy camera ready :hehe:

I don't know, I think the cat has at least a 50/50 chance.

The eagle is engineered to catch fish. Maybe some small rodents. Snakes lizards and such.

None of these things have 18 sharp claws and 1/2" fangs and are preditors in their own right with lightning reflexes and fast thinking.

With that said, 50/50 is NOT odds I'd be willing to take ;-)

hope i don't offend any vegetarians/vegans (what every they call themselves) but i need to tell my story from yesterday.

I went to a burn pit fire call, no big deal. Anyway, on the low road going out traveling 30 mph a doe jumped out of the tall grass totally unseen on my front pickup bumper and I straddled her under my low pickup truck killing her. I didn't look back. When I left the f. D. I noticed a little damage on the driver side air dam. So I said let me see if she was still there 1 hr later. Yes, so I pushed her more in the tall grass and returned with sharp knife and left gut pile. Called my buddy FRENCHIE and I had it 50% butchered when he got there he took most of it and I took choice parts . Cleaned well and debone and froze maybe 8-10 lbs of meat. I watch that meat eater hunt show so that was my inspiration. That was the first I did by myself. First deer and didn't get to shoot it. Got to figure some way to eat it now (will probably put in that smoker cabinet).

Congrats on the venison and kudos for not letting it go to waste. The back straps are my favorite part right behind the heart. One trick is to let the meat age and naturally break down the fibers. That's the reason deer are "hung" for a few days. I love me some Dove........mmmmmmm

I have no problems with a vegetarian lifestyle as long as they don't have a problem with my meat eating lifestyle. It's all good.

When you live with them, they can become large rats. They get so used to you always being there, you don't exist anymore. We ended up putting in plastic plants and flowers in many of the outdoor pots....and they STILL pull them out and leave them on the ground.

Yep, they are a train worth of pickup but I can back in my ztr mower in that long bed up the ramps and store blowers and gear in my giant weather gard box (double wide double deep, they can bury me in it). I always talk up folks at the gas pump who own the 99-01 series, always thought they were such a nice design.

6.0 liter is like the 400cid moto (i believe) and my 5.3 is like the 350 Cid. That's a lot of truck but got a have it for towing

Weldangrind

I made a mistake; mine is a 2000, not '01.

The 6.0 is 366ci, and the 5.3 is 323ci. They're not really as big as they seem, but the LS engine design makes impressive power. The truck I just retired is 4.8, which is only 293ci.

I also like the '99 to '03 series, although I'd rather have an '04 to early '07. The cylinder deactivation nonsense started after that.

2lz ....I guess it's dumb thinking but got turned off of Chevy with the whole bailout thing in 08 and I just never really liked the latest design. Kind seems fat and bulky with sheet work. Also those square fenders never really done it for me.

I do many highway miles and they say the Ford gets 26mpg . Me likie.

PS, understand the importance of 4x4s in snow country

I like the looks of those GIANT AIR CONDITIONING VENTS :hehe: very important "way down texas way".

Yes those dodges have come a long way too. They are nice. Thought about the 1/2 ton diesel but hard to justify the engine $ markup and higher per gallon diesel price. Especially now with lower gasoline prices.

This is a bit wordy but here's the story of this pic.

Spent most of this week in Colorado helping the Mountain States rep deal with a perceived panic. So called panic took me a few minutes to diagnose, an hour to fix and two hours of testing to prove to him that it was fixed. Anyway, as I booked most of the week for this four hour problem, we had time to kill. So we decided to meet with a customer up in Kremmling. We spoke with the customer the night before to let him know when we'd be there. Get to Kremmling and no customer. Call him and he's in Denver, where we came from. He was called to Denver and forgot to call us.

So, we have the whole day to ourselves. We each book a cabin at the campground in town and head into Parshall for dinner. Definitely, get the cheeseburger at the Parshall Inn. Huff wants to show me where he hunts, so we head up the hill. 3/4 of the way up we find snow on the road and the unladen 2wd pick up is struggling. We decide that discretion is the better part of valor and head back down.

We stopped and I got this shot.

Yea, It gets a lot of complements wherever i stop lol. Now i just need to get the rest of the cosmetics up to par. Kind of planning on doing a bit of dechroming on the engine. Main reason for this is because the chrome has flaked off portions of it. So if i am replacing the part anyway...might as well go for the wrinkle black part in its place.

Her and her dad went out to the Sac Gun Club for a little fun today....of course, while I went to work.

Between the two of them they brought a S&W M&P 9mm and 40. Two M1 Garand's, one M1 Carbine, a Lee Enfield 303 and a 1911.
This is her with my Lee Enfield. It kicks like a mule, compared to much of today's modern units. Not bad for the first five shots, no scope and a good cross wind @ 100 yards.

Now they get to do what they really love to do together.....reload!

I love shooting black powder pistols! I bought one last summer and can't get enough of it.

1860 44 caliber Army black powder revolver replica . I had a 50 caliber Kentucky long rifle that I used for deer hunting.

Nice sidearm. I have fired one of the early Navy revolvers (replica). Black powder shooting is a trip.

As i mentioned in the "What did you buy" thread. The wife and i adopted this little guy

This is one of the few clear pics i got of him so far lol. Not quite sure what breed he is as all the paperwork indicated was that he was a Domestic Short Hair Brown Tabby. His coloration reminds me a lot of a Manx i had years ago. But all in all it has been interesting getting to know this little 5 month old 5 lb bundle of energy named Marcus

I took a ride on the Hawk today out to one of the local festivals. They had almost 200 old cars and trucks.

Had my good buddy up a while back. Doin' a wee bit of drinkin' and it was cold out, so the Winter hats came out, as did the camera phones.
I felt inspired so I had a window sticker made in black and white. He's really gonna hate me now when he spots this. Never get hammered around 2LZ. You think he'd know better by now..........

When you work from home on a snow day, you clear away the snow when the phone isn't ringing.
