My awesome windshield from Thailand!

I wanted to say a few things about Yoo's windshield. I purchased mine awhile back and really noticed a difference cruising on the freeway at 75. I have tusk risers and handguards. It took quite a bit of tweaking and a little grinding to get everything to fit nicely at full turn.

However, I recently broke it off while being a dumbass in my garage. I was maunuving the bike to perform an oil change to get it in a good spot before bringing it up on the centerstand and........ blamo! It dropped into my storage cabinet and the windshield burst into pieces.

Anyway, when I put the OEM back on and rode to work the different was even more noticeable going back. Lots more "wobble" and obviously more wind.

One great thing to note is that Yoo is giving me a discount on a replacement windshield! How cool is that. Thanks Yoo. I am also getting his risers, so I will have more handlebar and lever positioning options.

I am concerned about your windshield "burst into pieces". This sounds dangerous - what if a stone flies up from a passing vehicle?

"Acrylic is only about 3% as impact resistant as polycarbonate. Normal acrylic shatters upon impact, and therefore is considered an unsafe material for windshields. Acrylic is very chemically resistant, and is more transparent than glass - glass absorbs about half again as much light as acrylic does. Acrylic forms easily at high temperatures, about 300°. However, machining acrylic at room temperature is difficult. It's not very easy to cut acrylic with a saw or drill holes in acrylic without shattering or weakening the material.


Polycarbonate is a DOT approved material for making windshields; normal acrylic is not. Some states require DOT approved windshields, and therefore in these states a normal acrylic windshield is actually illegal, however these laws are rarely enforced. Normal acrylic can be shattered by an impact from a rock moving at speeds as low as 15mph.
We use a special high cost acrylic called Impact Modified Acrylic. This form of acrylic is DOT approved for windshields. We use only DOT certified impact resistant plastics to make Calsci windshields. Our windshields will not shatter if hit by a rock. We test our windshields by shooting them with a .22 caliber rifle and verifying that the windshield maintains its basic integrity without shedding small pieces that could impact your face or eyes. No windshield can protect you against everything, but we do our best to make certain that our windshields protect you against the small rocks frequently thrown up by other vehicle's tires. "

Hi Dan,

I likely used an inappropriate description. It broke into 4 pieces. The breaks were through the attachment holes, eg the weak points. I think I used the burst description because the windsheild was holding the bikes weight for a moment until it gave in. I am pretty certain there is nothing to worry about the quality or integrity of this windshield. It seems to be polycarbonate.

I have a picture that I can send to you or I can add it here when I have more time. Kids are keeping me from spending too much time on forums today

Roots, sorry to hear of the drop and resultant windscreen breakage. And thanks for reporting the increased wind and wobble from the stock screen versus Yoo's screen. I think the stock screen does a fine job, but for those folks (like me) who are bigger or sit taller (I do both), Yoo's screen gives me better wind protection.

Also great to read that Yoo is giving you a discount on the replacement! That's great customer service! Way to go, Yoo!

Lastly... I have the Tusk risers and they're quite good. But I think Yoo's risers with the offset would have been a better choice for me as it does bring the bar one inch closer. Let us know how you like Yoo's risers when you get them!

Yoo states in his description that it is made of acrylic.
I am writing to ask what grade of acrylic he is using.

My Windshield, made of acrylic. Normal grade of acrylic. I sold 42 USD the same price all over the world in Thailand, Malaysia US, UK, Columbia, Argentina, Turkey ETC. It's a normal price not expensive, 90% of Windshield in Thailand made from Normal grade of acrylic but never find any problem or accident. I know the Polycarbonate Windshield well, but the price will very high may be 140 USD. (Price in Thailand) I recommend if anyone install my Windshield and handguns you must use bar riser too. Because Handguard it will impact to Windshield. Sometime the normal thing makes the great time for the rider that find the pleasantest thing by the easiest way. I hope my Normal Windshield will always supply for rx3 users. Thank for all support.

I got the mirrors on Amazon. They're Ken Sean mirrors and only $12 each. Cheap, very little vibration, and they stay where you put them. I also like the extra visibility I get from the square shape.

Detours, thanks for that info on the mirrors. I've never been happy with the cut up pattern of the OEM mirrors; here in Iloilo the motorcycle riders pass on the right all the time and I can't always see them with the stock mirrors, I'm going to order a set of these Ken Sean.
