Tractor Supply and SuperBrightLEDs, Auxiliary Work Lights: Installation

I modified the stock work lights so I could mount them to the engine guards with 3/4", split-ring pipe hangers, which I bought at Lowes.

I removed the vertical mounting bolts from the work lights, and enlarged the holes to accept 3/8" bolts to accommodate the pipe hangers. I mounted each work light to a pipe hanger with a 1" long, 3/8" bolt, two 5/16" washers, a 3/8" locking washer, and a 3/8" nut, as shown below.





I adjusted the work lights for vertical and horizontal alignment, and tightened all the hardware. After wrapping 8 turns of electrical tape to the engine guard, I mounted one of the work lights to the right side of the bike. I then test rode the installation for several hundred miles while I awaited the arrival of some two-wire plugs.

The auxiliary power harness of the U.S bikes employs Sumitomo, HTW 110 connectors, which are sometimes erroneously called Hitachi connectors. I bought some male and female connectors for this installation from Corsa Technic.

After checking the polarity of the auxiliary wiring harness, I fabricated a cable to connect the A1 auxilary plug to the work lights. I soldered a male connector on one end, and split the wires into two female connectors on the other end.

I soldered a male connector on the end of the wire from each work light.

I zip tied the wire from the A1 connector along the main wiring harness to the front of the motorcycle. The evening before the installation, I fabricated the wire for a length of 4.5 feet. This wire was about 1.5 feet too long, so I would recommend a length of 3.5 feet for future installations. I coiled the excess wire inside the frame. I exited the two female plugs outside the frame, on the left side of the motorcycle. You can see the routing of this red/black wire in the next two photographs, which I took during my heated grip installation.

Finally, I zip tied the wires leading from the Tractor Supply lights to the engine guard. I connected the lights to the female connectors leading from the A1 connector. I can quickly disconnect the work lights when necessary, either for repair or for replacement.

These work lights do an excellent job lighting the area immediately in front of, and to the sides of the motorcycle. These lights also enhance the conspicuity of the motorcycle during the daytime.

I finished the installation of these work lights, and my Oxford heated grips, after dark. Therefore, I don't have any photos of the finished installation. It is cold, and raining today. More lousy weather is predicted for the next week.

Winter is arriving quickly in East Idaho. I'm glad I completed this installation on the last decent day of the riding season. After the rain stops, I will post some photos of the completed installation.

Once again, I wish to thank Huck369 for discovering, and notifying everyone of these rugged, economical work lights. They really do an excellent job filling in the dark areas of the standard headlight. I can now turn corners on pavement, and negotiate off road riding at night with excellent visibility of the nearby riding surface.

Incidentally, these work lights will also do an excellent job illuminating a camping area for pitching a tent in the dark, et cetera.

The A1 auxiliary line is connected to the ignition switch, so these lights automatically extinguish when the ignition key is turned off. In addition, the lights are switched on/off by the auxiliary power switch on the right side of the handlebars, so I turn them off when starting the motorcycle. However, I plan to run the lights at all times, since they also greatly increase visibility of the bike during daylight hours.

Thanks for discovering this set of lights and the excellent research for the correct connectors.

I was going to order a more expensive set of LED's but these look to be just right for filling in the light to the sides of the bike and are very inexpensive.

These headlights are not just inexpensive, they are very robust, and cast an excellent light pattern.
